On May 13, 2015 I attended the Parents as Partners Conference at New Jersey City University. Pictured above is Lorenzo Richardson Jersey City Board of Education Board Member and Kevin Powell guest speaker at the conference and graduate of Snyder High School. Kevin Powell is a successful author and motivational speaker who talked about his life as a student in Jersey City Public Schools and his motivation to succeed to through obstacles such as poverty. With support from his mother and leaders in the community Kevin Powell went on to Rutgers College and published 11 books including his new one that comes out in November 2015 called "The Education of Kevin Powell A Boy's Journey into Manhood."
On May 6, 2015 I had the pleasure of being Principal for a Day at William L. Dickinson High School. I and Captain Sollitti (graduate of Dickinson and also Principal for a Day) had a chance to visit classrooms such as Spanish 101, Forensics class, coding class and two art classes. They toured the facilities too such as the newly renovated cafeteria, the gyms, pool, nurse's office, auditorium, and the grounds. I want to thank the Principal Frederick D. Williams and his staff for their hospitality that day and I also want to thank Paul Silverman from Silverman Properties for hosting the Principal for a Day Program throughout the Jersey City district.
